Capt. Thomas Vose - Veteran of King Phillip's War
Family Connection - 6th great-grandfather of Edward Elihu Hazen, Jr.
Thomas Vose was born on Feb. 18, 1641, in Lancashire, England, the son of the Nov. 19th blog post subjects, Robert Vose and Jane Moss. He immigrated to Dorchester, Massachusetts with his parents, sometime before 1654.
In 1660 or 1661, Thomas married Waitstill Wyatt, daughter of Edward Wyatt and Mary Newport in Dorchester. They had four children:
Elizabeth b. 1661 d. 1730
Henry b. 1663 d. 1752
Jane b. 1665 d. after 1708
Thomas b. 1667 d. 1722
Thomas and his family lived on a farm in Milton, Massachusetts given to him by his father in 1661. He added about 200 acres to his farm in 1682.
Thomas was an active member of the Milton community. He served as selectman (town council) for eighteen years, town clerk for seventeen, Representative to General Court (legislature) for ten years, and many town and church committees.
Thomas was also one of the grantees in the Dorchester New Grant, which would become Stoughton. He gave his son-in-law Henry Crane, Elizabeth's husband, 80 acres of his land grant on 1707.
Thomas Vose was a Lieutenant under Capt. Samuel Wadsworth during King Phillip's War. Thomas was a survivor of the Great Swamp fight, when Colonial troops attacked the Narraganset Fort on Dec. 19, 1675. Vose was commissioned Captain in June of 1689, and in June of 1690 was appointed one of the two captains in the expedition to Canada in King William's War. There is no record if he actually joined the expedition.

Thomas Vose died on April 23, 1708 in Milton. In his will, he made provisions for his widow Waitstill and his children. Waitstill Wyatt Vose died in 1727. Thomas and Waitstill are buried in the Milton Cemetery in Milton, Massachusetts.
