John Warner - French and Indian War and Revolutionary War Veteran John Warner's Grave in Greenwood Cemetery John Warner was born on May 25, 1745 to parents Dr. Benjamin Warner and Silence Hurd Warner in Woodbury, Connecticut. He moved to Bennington Vermont with his family in 1763. Military records indicate he served in the French and Indian War in 1762. Not much is known except he served in the Sixth Company of the First Regiment under Major General Phineas Lyman. His first wife, name unknown, died in 1775. In August 1777, a few days before the Battle of Bennington, he married Joanna Ames. John and his brothers Daniel and Seth all served during the Revolutionary War. Vermont military records for that period are not complete or detailed, but it is known that John Warner rose to the rank of Captain in Lt.
