Hazen Family Tree - Roger Clap, Captain at Castle Island

Roger Clap - Soldier, Captain at Castle Island Family Connection - 7th great-grandfather of Edward Elihu Hazen, Jr.  Roger Clap was born on April 12, 1609 in Sallcom, Devonshire, England. We know a lot about him, since he wrote his memoirs.  When he was twenty or twenty-one, a Puritan minister from forty miles away from the Clap home asked Roger's father if he could come talk to Roger. The minister was Rev. John Maverick, and he was recruiting young men to relocate to the Massachusetts colony. After the talk, Roger agreed to go, with his father asking Rev. Maverick to look after him.  Rev. Maverick and his new parishioners left Plymouth, England on March 20, 1630, on the ship Mary and John, which arrived at Nantasket on May 30, 1630. They came ashore and began to build the town of Dorchester. They built their first meetinghouse when they arrived. This stone marks the location of that first meeting house. Remember these were Puritans, and there was no separation of church ...

There is, however, no indication of a second marriage, so both John Turner children likely share the same mother and father.  Humphrey immigr...

Bradley Family Tree - George Badcock, Indentured Servant, then Landowner

George Badcock - Immigrant, Indentured Servant, Land Owner 8th great-grandfather of Ruth Ann Bradley Okay, let's deal with the name spelling right away. The initial immigrants in this family spelled and pronounced the family name as Badcock, but around the time of the Revolutionary war, most family members were using the name Babcock instead. As this person was born in 1608, he used the spelling Badcock.  George was born in England in 1608. There is some confusion in the genealogy community about who his parents were, but DNA is being used to test the descendants, which over time, will straighten out who begat whom.  There were three Badcock men who appear in the colony records, George, Robert, and James, and it was always assumed that they were brothers, but DNA studies of their descendants have proven that George and Robert were brothers, but James, an early settler of Rhode Island, was not.  George immigrated to the New Haven Colony in about 1638. The first mention of ...

She, however, declined to take on that responsibility, so the administration of the family estate was assigned to Andrew Elliot, not part of the Roots family. Then, with her sons dead or moved out of the area, she is placed under the care of her late son Thomas'  father-in-law. She was left destitute as a result. It is a...
