Hazen Family Tree - Francis Peabody, Founder of Hampton New Hampshire and Topsfield Massachusetts

Francis Peabody, Farmer and Town Clerk, Founder of Hampton and Topsfield Family Connection - 8th great-grandfather of Edward Elihu Hazen, Jr.  Francis Peabody was born in England in about 1613. In 1635, he was a passenger on the ship "Planter" and immigrated to Massachusetts. He first settled in Ipswich. By 1639, he was one of the founding settlers of  Hampton, New Hampshire, part of the group led by Stephen Bachiler. He was a member of the church in Hampton, and was named Freeman in 1642. He served on a jury at least thee times, and was named "Commissioner to end small causes" in Hampton.  By 1640, he married Lydia, surname unknown. Roger Mowry - Innkeeper Family Connection - 10th great-grandfather of Roy Ellsworth Stricker Mowry Family Monument, North Smithfield, Rhode Island Memorial to Roger Mowry Roger Mowry was born in England in about 1610. In 1630, he migrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony and settled in Salem. His job in Salem was to be the "neat herd" - the person who herded all the cattle kept in town to pastures outside of town to graze each day. He was made Freeman on May 18, 1631. Patriot's Day 2026 and the Acton Minutemen This blog post will be a little different from they others. Yesterday was Patriots Day, an annual Massachusetts State holiday to honor those who fought for the Massachusetts colony against the British in the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775.  First - a memory. When our family moved to Acton, we picked a house that we could afford during a single crazy week. We didn't notice that down the street and around the corner, about a mile from our house, is a historical marker for the homestead of Isaac Davis. It didn't take long for us to learn who Isaac Davis was.  Isaac Davis was a blacksmith and gunsmith. He was also the captain of the Acton Minutemen, the local militia. Ever since the British Parliament revoked the Provincial Charter of Massachusetts in 1775, towns all over the area began training their local militia companies. In Acton, the local militia was trained and ready. Isaac Davis even fitted their guns with bayonets, ...

George Chappell, Carpenter Family Connection - 9th great-grandfather of Roy Ellsworth Stricker Founder's Monument, Windsor, Connecticut George Chappell was born in about 1615 in England. The first record of him is in 1635, on the manifest for the ship Christian, where he was listed as being 20 years old. On March 28, 1637, he was apprenticed to Francis Stiles of Windsor, Connecticut. George and Francis are both listed on the Founder's Monument in Windsor.  In 1637, George Chappell most likely participated in the Battle of Mystick Fort, the attack on the Pequot Native American tribe, where 400-700 Pequots were killed by a group of colonists led by John Mason of Windsor.  By 1642, George moved to the town of Wethersfield, Connecticut and married Christian, family name unknown. He migrated to Massachusetts in 1633 and settled in Cambridge. He was part of  Rev.
