Jeremy Adams, Innkeeper
Family Connection - 8th great-grandfather of Edward Elihu Hazen
Jeremy Adams was born in England in 1604. He migrated to Massachusetts in 1633 and settled in Cambridge. He was part of Rev. Thomas Hooker's congregation, and was named Freeman on May 6, 1635. In 1636, Hooker lead one hundred members of his congregation on a two week overland journey to found the town of Hartford, Connecticut. Jeremy Adams was a member of that group.
In 1637, Jeremy married Rebecca Baseden, widow of Samuel Greenhill. They had five children:

Hester b. 1641 d. unknown, but after 1653
Sarah b. 1643 d. unknown
Samuel b. 1645 d. before 1653
Jeremy was also guardian of Thomas and Rebecca Greenhill, the children of Rebecca by her first husband.
In 1638, Jeremy Adams was appointed to a group of residents led by Capt. Mason sent to negotiate with the Warranocke Indians for corn.
Jeremy Adams was the Innkeeper for the town of Hartford. By 1639, he owned seventeen acres of land.
He was a member of the Hartford Train Band (town militia) until 1665. He served as a juror, tax collector, Constable, and Collector of Customs for Hartford.
In 1661, Jeremy Adams was granted three hundred and forty acres by the Connecticut court in compensation for his operation of the Hartford town ordinary (inn).
Rebecca Adams died in 1678. In 1682 or 1683, Jeremy married Rebecca Fletcher, widow Warner.
Jeremy Adams died on August 11, 1683 in Hartford. His Estate totaled £243, including £159 in real estate. The burial location for Jeremy and his wives is unknown, but his name appears on a Cenotaph at Center Cemetery in Hartford, honoring the original settlers of the town.
